About Surfing Western Australia
Surfing Western Australia was established in 1964 and is regarded by the Department of Sport and Recreation ass one of WA's major sporting organisation. For over 40 years Surfing WA has been the governing body for all forms of surfboard riding in Western Australia, including shortboards, longboards, bodyboards, and stand up paddle boards.
From it early origins as a sport, surfing is now enjoyed by recreational, competitive and professional surfers across the state. Surfing WA is actively involved in all levels of the industry, from developing educational programs, providing pathways initiatives, and hosting local, state, national and international events. Across all programs, Surfing WA reaches over 250,000 Western Australians and millions of people interstate and overseas each year.
The association has produced many international champions such as Taj Burrow, Jake Paterson, Melanie Redman and Claire Bevilacqua just to name a few, and are proud to have some future world champion hopefuls coming through our ranks each and every year.
Surfing WA manages one of the world's largest Association of Surfing Professional (ASP) events: The Drug Aware Pro, Margaret River and The Chill Pro Junior at Trigg Point.
2010 is shaping up to be another bumper year for Surfing WA with new programs and events planned at benefitting surfers right across the state.
