Wahu Surfer Groms Comps Set for Second Australian Season

Formerly a seven event series, five state branches (Qld, NSW, WA, SA and VIC) will again play host to the exciting, all-grommet affairs, which has been expanded to eight events nationally with the inclusion of an extra stop at Cronulla (NSW). 

Surfing Australia CEO Andrew Stark said based on the results and response from grommets in 2009, the 2010/11 series is shaping up bigger and better.

"The Wahu Surfer Groms Comps has become an important national junior development program for our sport," he said.

"The program offers kids Australia wide the chance to get involved in surfing and enjoy the thrill and fun of the sport whilst also having fun on the beach with all the great Wahu beach products. We thank Wahu for their continued support of the national program."

The surfer groms comps cater for the mirco groms (U/9) to the big kids alike (U/15) of any level, and is all about providing a fun, but competitive environment. There will also be loads more prizes, giveaways and tons of beach games.

"Focusing on junior surfing across Australia whilst encouraging kids to get involved with healthy outdoor activities is what the Wahu brand is all about."

Adding to the eight event series is the inclusion of a body board expression session. Also, each entrant will receive an uber-cool Wahu Surfer Groms Comp t-shirt and accompanying hat for entering, plus go into the running to win Wahu beach products through daily award giveaways across the surfing and beach game disciplines, which state branches will be coordinating.

While there is some serious competition planned, the main objective is to get kids active and having fun.

Divisions include: U/15 boys and girls, U/13 boys and girls, Under 11 boys and girls and Under 9 parent assist mixed.

The opening Wahu Surfer Groms Comp event will be held at Trigg Beach, WA on November 6-7, 2009.
